The Nürburgring racetrack in Germany was built in the 1920’s around the village of Nürburg in the Eifel Mountains; the track went from being just a circuit to a grand prix level circuit in 1982 and now includes, amusement rides, hotels, restaurants and other exhibits. This legendary tourist destination has unfortunately gone on sale, with the possibility of it being sold as either a single entity or broken up into pieces. A state appointed liquidator, Jens Lieser confirmed this rumor on Monday. The 125 million Euros ($161 million) property initially had over 50 buyers interested, which has now boiled down to a mere 5 or 10. Lieser has tried to reassure the public by stating that none of the potential buyers are oligarchs or sheikhs and as such won’t make the track private.

The track commonly called the ‘Ring’ has a vocal supporter in the form of Mike Frison, who launched the website savethering.org and maintains a Facebook and twitter page for the same cause. A “Yes to the Nürburgring” parade and protest was held from Nürburg to Mainz, which saw more than 500 people turn out in support of the cause. As of right now no clear buyer has emerged, we can only hope that the property remains usable to the public and grass root level motor sport enthusiasts.
